Hello poets: We are keen to collaborate with you on ‘_this breath is not mine to keep’, to explore how supremacy thinking colonizes our minds.

‘_this breath’ includes 10 community multi-arts installations as a whimsical arts trail across 4 public galleries in South Australia Sep 2020 – Jan 2021, with print and online publications that explore supremacy thinking, climate crisis, grief and the existential joy of life.

Globally we are witnessing the extinction of our world, and yet we continue to fuel our demise, so how do we notice our involvement, disrupt the stasis and rewrite the rules?

Welcome to The Colony

_this breath is not mine to keep is set in a fictitious NOW, under CRISIS-∞ restrictions. The Colony, a surreal bureaucracy, has colonized our world and repurposed the project’s website to broadcast public compliance messages. Our mission - and yours if you dare to accept - is to question, challenge and resist The Colony’s supremacy thinking through your poetry. How you respond is up to you, but we are asking all our collaborators to delve deep into the 10 supremacy and grief scenarios to explore what resonates, so we can share keys to global solidarity and climate justice.

1. By entering a piece of poetry into _this breath is not mine to keep, you agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions: 2. Submissions open Wednesday 01 July 2020, 9:00am CST 3. Submissions close Friday 31 July 2020 5:00pm CST 4. The word limit is 25 lines per poem. This includes titles, breaks and any sub-headings. There is no minimum number of words. Less is more for work to appear on the public projection screen. 5. Entry is open to everyone living in Australia. 6. Your poem must not include your name or any identifying marks, this means any word that the curators can link directly to you. Names of places and/or first names of people are, generally, acceptable. Be sure there are no words that identify you as the poet. All submissions will be considered without curators knowing poet names. 7. Submission is online only at https://www.thisbreath.space/poetry-call-out 8. Entries must be your original work and must not be published in any form (print or electronic) or currently offered for publication elsewhere. 10. You must acknowledge any quotes from other writers that you use. 11. You must provide your own name on the entry form. If you would prefer your poem to be published under a pseudonym, please note it on the entry form. 12. There is no limit to number of entries, but your submission must address at least one of the 10 steps to supremacy/ grief stages of _this breath (www.thisbreath.space) 13. Entrants must be aged over 18 years. If you are under 18, get your legal guardian to submit on your behalf. 14. The curators decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into with the curators, Change Media staff or the collaborating artists, lead artists or the project partners or funders. 15. By entering work into _this breath, you (the poet) agree to give permission to Change Media to publish your work across the project (exhibitions, website and anthology) if selected. You retain the copyright to your work. As curators of the exhibitions and as publisher of the anthology, Change Media retains First Publication Rights to all submitted works and may use any title or phrase from any entry for the purpose of promoting _this breath, its exhibitions and the anthology. Any collection or publication subsequent to the exhibitions that includes your work should acknowledge Change Media and _this breath. 16. _this breath is a collaborative work based on Change Media’s creative concepts and artistic provocations, all pre-existing materials remain copyright of Change Media. All of Change Media’s works and artistic concepts remain Change Media’s property, the same applies to the participating artists and participating community members and their respective works, and any underlying creative and cultural intellectual property. 17. You agree to grant Change Media non-exclusive rights to your submitted work in perpetuity across all current and future platforms. 18. You warrant that your submitted work is your own, unencumbered work and that you are able to grant Change Media non-exclusive rights to use your work, including any cultural rights. 19. Selected poets may be asked to participate in media-related events associated with _this breath is not mine to keep. 20. By supplying your contact details you agree to us sending you opt-out correspondence. 21. Once the call out for submission closes, all entries will be crosschecked. We will only contact you via email if you have been selected to participate in _this breath. 22. If selected to be published in the anthology, your work may, at the discretion of Change Media, be converted to U.S. English and the anthology may be published in both U.S. and Australian English.
