Lorcan Hopper (performer and emerging director) has worked extensively in the industry with many well-known dancers/choreographers and filmmakers, most recently on Change Media’s The Loop in 2019 for SBS. Lorcan has Down Syndrome and is a proud disabled artist bringing enormous energy, enthusiasm and charisma to his work. He worked with Restless Dance Theatre in 2004, has performed in 12 works and in 2014 Lorcan was part of the their production of Salt. Lorcan is an emerging director, he was a guest director for Rawcus (2013) and he directed a dance piece for ADT Rough Draft called ‘Wild Clown Circus’ (2015). Lorcan joined Tutti Performing Arts in 2012 making his debut in the thought-provoking performance of the ‘Square Project’. In 2015 he performed as Traffic Controller Monkey God in ‘Shedding Light’ for the Oz Asia Festival and at the International Arts Festival in Penang. In 2018 with a grant from the Australia Council and under the guidance of Paul Gazzola, Lorcan and four other disabled artists completed a two-week creative development called ‘Of Boys and Men’. This dance work is led by the young men, with a performance in 2019 supported through the Festival Theatre’s InSpace Program and Arts SA.
Lofcan will explore responses to depression, supported by set designer Gaelle Mellis, Arts Access SA, to develop new dance work and challenge power dynamics across sectors.
